Electronic Flow Meters & Totalizing Flow Meters: Multi-Variable Electronic Digital Backends

Quick Answer: Silver Automation Instruments supplies electronic flow meters with multi-variable electronic digital backends that read live flow rate, flow total, pressure, temperature, and density in one unit. These meters fit industrial liquid, gas, steam, fuel, and chemical measurement jobs across Southeast Asia, Oceania, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Send us your pipe size in DN, pressure in bar, temperature in °C, and flow range for a specific model and price.

What a Multi-Variable Electronic Digital Backend Does

A multi-variable electronic digital backend is the signal processing core inside an electronic flow meter. It receives the primary sensor signal and converts it into a digital reading on the display. At the same time it accepts additional inputs such as PT100 temperature sensors, pressure transmitters, and density signals. The backend then computes mass flow or standardised volume flow and shows the accumulated total.

In practice many engineers only need one value at the display. But when a process gas stream changes temperature or pressure, a simple volumetric reading can be wrong. The multi-variable backend corrects the live flow rate using stored physical properties and live process values. That is why oil and gas sites, steam plants, and food producers in Southeast Asia and the Middle East ask us for this type of electronic flow meter.

Electronic Flow Meter Types with Multi-Variable Digital Backends

We supply several flow meter types with electronic digital backends. The right choice depends on fluid, conductivity, viscosity, flow range, and pipe size.

Coriolis mass flow meters are available from DN15 up to DN300. They measure mass flow, density, and temperature directly. Typical accuracy is 0.2 percent of rate for liquids and 0.5 percent for gas. The digital backend displays kg/h, g/cc, and °C at the same time. Send us your cP value if the fluid is heavy oil, syrup, or polymer.

Electromagnetic flow meters are built from DN10 to DN2000. They need a conductive liquid above 5 µS/cm. These meters suit water, wastewater, slurries, acid, and brine. The backend shows flow rate, totalised volume, and optional batch control.

Vortex flow meters handle steam, compressed air, and natural gas. The backend accepts a pressure transmitter and a PT100 temperature probe. It converts volumetric flow to mass flow for saturated or superheated steam. This is common in palm oil mills in Indonesia, chemical plants in Thailand, and beverage plants in Vietnam.

Thermal mass flow meters read gas flow directly in Nm3/h or kg/h. They work for biogas, aeration air, flare gas, and natural gas. The backend totalises gas consumption without needing separate pressure compensation in many low pressure lines.

Oval gear flow meters suit diesel, fuel oil, grease, and other high viscosity fluids. The electronic backend gives local total display and a 4-20 mA HART output for remote reading.

Totalizing Flow Meters: Why the Total Display Matters

Here is the thing. A totalizing flow meter is the billing tool on many sites. It shows the accumulated volume or mass over time. This total is used in billing, batch loading, utility monitoring, and production reporting.

We have seen this on customer sites many times. A water treatment plant in the Philippines uses an electromagnetic flow meter with a digital backend to total daily treated water. A diesel reseller in Kenya uses an oval gear flow meter to record every litre loaded into a delivery truck. A chemical batch plant in Mexico uses a Coriolis mass flow meter to stop the batch at a set total mass.

Most engineers skip manual log sheets when the meter itself keeps the total. The digital backend
